Emblem Plaza opens with a community planting day
Neighbors and partners planted the new plaza together, built around portal stones from the historic CSX railway.
Community planting day at Emblem Plaza, November 16, 2025
On November 16, 2025, neighbors and our partners at Complete Landscaping got their hands dirty to open Emblem Plaza at 801 Virginia Ave SE.
The plaza is designed around a piece of the neighborhood's past: portal stones from the historic CSX railway, now reused as seating and as edges for the planting beds.
It took a lot of partners to get here, including Complete Landscaping, Horn & Co., Barracks Row Main Street and the residents of the Emblem Condominium. We raise funds for the plaza, help operate and program it, and we're adding historical signage that tells the story of the stones.
Stop by any day from 8 am to 8 pm – and please leave the portal stones where they are.
