Longer version

The Capitol Riverfront Parks Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that builds community through shared public space along DC's riverfront, on the Anacostia River and the Washington Channel. Founded in 2017 by the Navy Yard BID and relaunched in 2025 with a broader mission, the Foundation helps design, fund, program and operate eight parks, plazas and public spaces, working alongside the National Park Service, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation, the District Department of Transportation and neighborhood partners. Recent projects include the Robert M. Krughoff Pickleball Center, five free public courts under the freeway at Garfield Park; Emblem Plaza, opened with a community planting day in November 2025; and the community-led redesign of Bridge Spot. The Foundation has its own board of directors. Learn more at riverfrontfoundation.org.
