The 2nd Street underpass
Bridge Spot
Part informal playground, part canvas for community art, the underpass on the south edge of Garfield Park has been a not-so-hidden gem for years. Now the people who use it are helping shape what comes next, one project at a time.

Hours
Dawn to dusk for now. Longer hours will come once the basketball/futsal court is built and when lighting is installed at the Krughoff courts.
Getting there
Navy Yard–Ballpark Metro (Green Line, New Jersey Avenue exit) or Capitol South Metro (Orange, Blue and Silver Lines), each about an 8-minute walk. Stairs, as well as the Garfield Connector's new accessible ramp, link the courts to Garfield Park.

What we do here
We lead Bridge Spot's community design process, raise the money for each project, and operate and program the space.
This is a place keeping project as much as a place making one. We can't promise everything will stay exactly as it is, but the skating, the pickup games and the art that made Bridge Spot what it is are what we're designing around. The changes are meant to make room for them: accessible ramps, safer lighting, and better courts and skate facilities.
